Bug? Dark Matter Mode Doesn't Unlock
« on: January 14, 2010, 08:26:47 AM »
When I first installed the game, I noticed the Skirmish Arenas were locked, and all the Dark Matter levels were locked except # 3.  I've played through all 25 levels, and got a box that said it would unlock the Dark Matter mode; I clicked OK.  Nothing seems to have changed- #3 is the only one available.  I tried using the Unlock option, and restarted, but no change.

Is this normal or a bug?

I was thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling.  Is this a possible solution?  If I do it will I lose my progress?  Actually, this is not a big deal for me, since I'd like to play through again.  If it is retained, though, and you think it might be related to the issue, should I delete the file, and if so, where is it?

Any help would be appreciated.

The fact that you can play level 3 in Dark Matter Mode (DMM) shows that it is unlocked. You will have to play through all the levels again in DMM to unlock one after another, like in normal story mode. This is how it is intended.
Please note that in DMM, the aim of every level is to have control of all asteroids in the level. Even though in some level there pop up some of the text boxes from the normal story mode, just ignore them. Conquery evrything! :D

As for the reinstallation/prograss file: I dont know if uninstalling by default removes your configuration or if it gives you the option to do it, but guessing from where the config file is located, i think it will be deleted by default. The file that saves your settings and progress is c:\Program Files\eufloria\Resources\user.settings (standalone game) or c:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\eufloria\Resources\user.settings (if you have bought the game on Steam). I'm not sure what happens if you delete it (you could try by deleting it to the trash bin or by renaming it first). But you could easily manipulate it; just open in it in a text editor, it is fairly apparent where the progress is saved.

If you have any trouble with the file, or if you wanna know exactly what to change inside the file, please ask again.

Level 3 in the DMM is the only one unlocked.  Levels 1 and 2 don't appear.

Also, I found another user.settings file in C:Users/me/AppData/Local/VirtualStore/ProgramFiles/Eufloria/Resources (Windows 7).  This is the only user.settings file modified each time I play.

When I unistalled the demo and installed the paid version, I think it kept my progress, so I suspect uninstalling leaves this one behind.

Since levels 1 and 2 do not contain any enemy empires, they are disabled in DMM, cause they'd be pointless to play.

And that file has probably to do with some kind of software and/or backup function you enabled on your system, because "VirtualStore" sounds pretty much backup'ish to me. And I know that Eufloria by default only uses its own directory and no user-dependent directories.

Thanks, HKK.

It looks like all is well.

BTW, I didn't set up the file discussed, maybe it's the way Windows 7 does things.  You may be right, perhaps it creates it and sends all user settings to that one instead.  The developers may want to be aware of this, too.  Now I also know how to start the game over with no progress, even after uninstalling it.

Thanks again.
