Crackling sound
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:43:51 AM »
I'm getting this weird, quite loud, crackling sound with eufloria. I've tried it on two different computers, and they both have this crackling.

And I know it's not intentional because I listened to the .ogg files.

edit:

I was about to come and say the problem disappeared, but apparently it only occurs if you linger in the menu too long.

Right! That's the menu loop looping. That's no good. I'm not sure that's something I have much control over! EEEEEK. Oh well I'll look into it soon!

Does it happen anywhere except the menu?

Not that I'm aware of, but to be clear, it's not just the main menu, I noticed it in the mission menu too.

But yeah, in-game it's fine.

Not sure if this is the same problem, but I'll l post it here.
Some sounds are too loud: starting and ending mission, destroing trees in game. Music and other sounds are fine.
Not sure if this is hardware/OS problem or game bug.
My OS: Windows 7 x64, soundcard: Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer Sound Card. If it matters.

PS thanks for a guy, who regged this account  ;)

AGERAK:

I have had the same problem in game with headset/speakers on both on-board and discrete sound cards.  This occurs in game during combat, and when an enemy 'tree' is destroyed.  Soundcard is X-Fi and I tried several configurations, nothing could completely remove the crackle, but some settings (bass related) would lessen it significantly.

Sorry to say, same problem here.  :'(

So far its only at the main menu for me and yes, it does seem to be when the loop restarts. If you go to options and toggle music off and on again, it stops until the loop restarts again. Hmmm...

A small problem which I'm sure will be worked out, right? It is an annoying blemish to such a fine game.

Really is a wonderful game though, thank you very much. A very enjoyable break from the normal hardcore gaming.

Have the Steam version by the way.

I think it depends on how close (zoomed in) you are to it. Closer to the tree when distroyed, the louder it is. I really like this, (please don't change it) sounds great on my Subwoofer. Its the sound of success (Boom), planet captured, taken over or whatever.

Perhaps, in regard to the loudness of tree explosions when zoomed in, you could have a setting to change the maximum volum when zoomed in or something, because I do like how it's louder when you are closer, but one time I was real zoomed in, the tree exploded, and I nearly fell out of my chair.  :o
