Bug: Click Takes too long to register
« on: August 10, 2010, 03:43:57 PM »
In Euflorium 2.0.5 on Windows XP SP3, it seems to take a long time for Eufloria to register a click.
This is most obvious in the menus, where it seems to take a click-hold-click (maybe 0.1s) to change from fullscreen to windowed, but it is an issue throughout the program.

Other programs in Windows react well to a momentary click (click-unclick).

Is Eufloria's click algorithm configurable to react quicker?

Sounds like your frame rate is really low - have you checked you have the absolute latest video card drivers for your graphics hardware?

About 9FPS (60 Seedlings) to 13 FPS (35 Seedlings) in the Stand (using F12 in Ctrl-D debug mode).

CPU: Pentium IV 3.2GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphics: Intel(R) 82865G Integrated 96MB
Windows XP SP3

Yes, my Intel(R) 82865G Integrated Graphics has the latest drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Desktop+graphics+controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+82865G+Graphics+and+Memory+Controller+Hub+(GMCH)

To be honest, I'm surprised it runs at all. But the demo ran quite well and it seemed like a good game.
The game speed does seem a bit slow on the later levels though.

So I assume from your comments that the click events and game speed are all tied into the framerate?

Any clues on performance options for the game? There don't seem to be any in the interface.
And I can't just reduce the (fullscreen) resolution because Eufloria sets that automatically.

I've spent some time fiddling with the OpenGL settings and managed to get from 9 to 14 FPS (and yes, that makes the game much more responsive!)

Here's what I found:

Antistropic Filtering: On -> Off improved 9->13 FPS
Triple Buffering: Default -> On improved 13->14 FPS, seems much more responsive in menus
Driver Memory Footprint: Default Normal, Low - Unplayable, High - No Immediate Change (Left on High to allow for more memory if required)

Refresh Rate: No Change (LCD Display)
Colour Quality (Bit Depth): No Change
FXT1 & S3TC Texture Compression: No Change
Texture Colour Depth: 16 BBT - No Change - Just Looks Ugly

Asynchronous Flip: Off -> On maybe 0.5 FPS decrease
Flipping Policy - No Change (Decrease 1 FPS with Triple Buffering)
Depth Buffer Bit Depth: 16 Bit - Unplayable

BC wins

Running with a smaller window will help a little yeah.

Other than that it sounds like you are running the machine on what I should probably consider listing as the minimum spec! Glad you got it into a somewhat playable state.

If you're using an integrated graphics adaptor, that will typically mean you are supposed to share some of your system memory (RAM) into your graphics chip.

You can usually do this in the BIOS by pressing F2 or Del or whatever, right after the computer starts.  So for example if you check it and discover it's sharing 32 megs into the graphics, but the option lets you go all the way up to 64 or 128 megs shared into the graphics chip, try a higher setting and see if that improves Eufloria's performance.
