Eufloria HD [Android] - Performance Issues
« on: December 10, 2012, 04:30:15 PM »
Hi there,

I got the HB Android 4 for two reasons and two reasons alone - Splice and Eufloria! As such, I was a little miffed that Eufloria wasn't entirely smooth when I downloaded it the moment the bundle went live.

Anyway, I thought you guys will take care of it, so I spen my time playing Splice and some other games from Google Play. Now that I have come back to Eufloria, the game is still disappointing performance wise despite some updates (I don't know what the updates were for since there are no changelogs).

Performance wise, the issues are as following:
- Not smooth panning
- Pinch to zoom is sluggish
- Unresponsive controls at times
- General "unsmooth" performance all around

Thing is, do you know of these issues? If yes, will they (and can they) be rectified? I have a Tegra 3 tablet, so I think my hardware shouldn't be an issue.

Also, if you don't mind, could you provide me with a code for the iPad copy of the game? At least I can play the game there for the time being, and also point out how I feel about the differences performance-wise on both platforms.

I hope you guys will iron out these kinks, because from what I have heard, people only have good things to say about Eufloria.

Cheers,

Himmat

Possibly a daft question: have you updated the copy you have on your tablet?

It's a touch input issue rather than a regular performance one. Apportable are trying to fix it but we can't do anything more until they do. It's frustrating because we won't release on the Play store until it's fixed.

Good news. Stayed up all last night talking to the porting guys and we think we found the problem - to do with an issue in the porting system which is why it was tough to track down.

I'm awaiting a test build but fingers crossed we can make the fix available in 48 hours or so. And finally release on Play!

Great! Really hope the update smoothens things, cause otherwise this will have to leave my device for other games.

Just tested the update and it's done the job. My Nexus 7 build no longer feels like treacle when I'm moving my finger around. Apparently 50% of the touches were disappearing into the ether.

Even so, iOS devices still out perform Android devices by a decent margin.

I'm hoping this update will go live for everyone by Saturday morning.

It is Monday already, and the Google Play version has been up for two days. I hope the Humble version gets updated sooner rather than later!!

There was a query on it as I picked up a couple of minor bugs. It was submitted last night so should go live today. They have to do it manually so it's out of are hands.

Update released. See how it goes. It's still not as fast as we'd like but it's a lot more responsive.

Thanks mate for the heads up!

I quickly played through a level, and surely the panning and zooming in/out is smoother. Not 100% smooth (you can still feel it jerks along), but it's playable now unlike before.

Just wanna know, what's the exact difference between the different levels of detail and render quality?

Thanks again!

LOD - affects at which point the high detail and low detail swap over. For gameplay reasons as well as speed ones, low or normal are best.

Quality - zoomed out asteroids and seedlings look nicer but this will slow down Android devices until the next hardware iteration.

The High Density option is some future proofing for retina displays.
