Getting Eufloria to run in Crossover-Games
« on: November 27, 2009, 07:07:50 AM »
If you have Crossover-Games and want to get the Eufloria -demo- running, you can use
the following procedure to overcome the fact that Crossover-Games does not yet support
 the .NET 2.0 required dependency ;

1. create a new bottle in crossover-games - winxp profile
2. archive this bottle - then quit crossover-games
3. start crossover-standard and restore the archived bottle created above
4. install .NET 2.0 into this bottle using crossover-standard
5. archive this bottle again - then quit crossover-standard
6. start crossover-games and restore the bottle created with crossover-standard
7. now in crossover-games, install the Eufloria program into the prepared bottle
8. game should start and run

If you only have Crossover-Games (and don't have Crossover-Standard), you can download
the demo version of Crossover-Standard from Codeweavers.com to do this work-around. This
procedure tested on linux | nvidia 9400gt | nvidia 190.42 videocard drivers. (185.xx.xx
works as well)

Cheers!

No problem -- I initially started investigating how to get this running in Crossover-Games to help a user out on the Codeweaver's forum :
now that I've had a bit more time with this title, I have to say it's a most unique/remarkable game concept and implementation, along with
the wonderful ambiance produced by the soundtrack, it creates a truly different and inspirational game environment ..very nice! I'll have
to top-up my paypal account and buy myself a Xmas present me thinks ;D

Onto other stuff....

Just so people here know, I have it on good authority from one of the codeweaver's devs, that the next release of Crossover-Games
(version 9.0) *should* have builtin install targets for the .NET runtime redistributable packages/dependencies, and once that is so you
won't have to jump through all these hoops to get Eufloria running under Crossover-Games -- that will makes things a lot easier.

Now that I see you've released a patch-set, the following info might also be of use to some;

To install/upgrade Eufloria patches in CrossOver Games :

1. download the required Eufloria executable patch
2. start cxsetup, highlight the bottle you have Eufloria install in
3. click on Install Software => Install other game => Next => Next => Other installer file
4. click on the Browse button, navigate to the patch you downloaded in step 1 => Open => Next
5. follow the installer prompts, the update patch should complete without error -> exit cxsetup when done
6. play the patched Eufloria

Cheers!

Hi,

Bit of an update on this -- the method described above works for the demo of Eufloria.

However, I have just purchased the full version of Eufloria and the above procedure
installs correctly, but the game itself is failing to start -- I will have to debug things
a bit more to find out exactly where the wheels are falling off....

If possible, I'll post a solution to this as soon as I discover the cause..

Cheers!

edit: problem is caused by the URL_parse function in crossover-games HTML engine ;
if you have crossover standard/pro the above procedure will work for both the demo
and full versions of Eufloria - I'll see if I can figure out a workaround for crossover games...

With crossover-games 8.1.3 and the *full* version of Eufloria 2.02 ;

1. create a new bottle in crossover-games - winxp profile
2. archive this bottle - then quit crossover-games
3. start crossover-standard and restore the archived bottle created above
4. install .NET 2.0 and Internet Explorer 6 into this bottle using crossover-standard
5. archive this bottle again - then quit crossover-standard
6. start crossover-games and restore the bottle created with crossover-standard
7. now in crossover-games, install the Eufloria program into the prepared bottle
8. game should start and run
