Suggestion: Seed Attributes and What They Do
« on: April 09, 2009, 01:07:34 AM »
I propose that, not only should your seeds have static attributes that define their energy, attack, and speed, but they should affect other behind the scenes attributes as well.

Example:

Energy: Right now, I think this is just your seed's health.  I propose that, depending on your seeds energy, once you go to take over an asteroid, it takes that into consideration as to how much energy of the core is depleted when a seed kamizazes.  EG: The higher the seed energy, the more energy it takes away from the core, and vice versa.  Also, I think seeds with higher energy should be produced slower from your trees.

Strength:  Right now, I think this is just how strong your seed's attack is.  I propose that the higher your attack is, the longer the distance your seed is able to attack, and vice versa.  EG: Seeds of strength 5 attack at a base distance of X.  Seeds of strength 6 attack at a base distance (some variable) times/plus X.  Also, the higher your attack is, the greater the angle of attack you can make on enemy seeds.

Speed: Right now, I think this is just how fast your seed flys around.  I propose that the higher your speed is, the higher your attack rate is.  Also, having a higher speed should also grant you a chance of avoiding enemy attacks entirely.

What do you guys think?

I like the idea of longer attack range with more strength.  Strength makes the least obvious difference as far as I can tell.

I will keep it in mind, I am not against it per se, but i am going to tweak strength as it is first to make it more of a factor, without necessitating a code change. :-)

This is an awesome suggestion. Can't wait 'till it is going to be released.

Was the idea of adding spawning time to the list of attributes ever considered? It always felt strange to me that spores with maximum energy, strength and speed are produced at the same rate as spores with very low attributes. If weaker spores were produced at a faster rate, it could lead to different strategies, like focusing on low level attributes planets at the begining of the game to get as much spores as you can early on and achieve faster expansion. Or would that be too complicated to implement and balance correctly?

I do believe this will render the game a lot more balance. But if the "Strong" seedling/spore should still be produced at a normal speed. It shouldn't take too much time to produce a seedling. Give the defense the "Splash" stats to the defenses. The highest it is, the larger the area the defense seedling/spore will damage when explodes.
