Welcome to the Dyson forum.

This is just a post where I'll dump various forum info.

Captcha
I put the captcha back down to a reasonable level, as people were complaining that they couldn't register as they couldn't read stuff like this:

I mean, come on. Who couldn't read that? Anyway it should be fairly doable now. On the down side, that means we tend to have more...

Spam Bots
I've taken to deleting spam bots before they've even posted anything.

If you register for this forum and find your account mysteriously deleted, that was probably me, sorry. I will delete newly-registered accounts that have meaningless usernames with strings of numbers in with equally stupid email addresses. I don't think I've screwed up yet, but just to let you know

Is there any problem using reCaptcha (http://recaptcha.net/ (http://recaptcha.net/))? - it looks easily readable in most cases and AFAIK it is highly reliable against bots.
Spent 15 minutes. I cannot read captcha sample you've posted :)

Right, welcome to the new forum! Simple Machines Forum is used by such notable sites as TIGSource and Zombie Cow Studios and they never seem to get spam. So there!

Regarding spambots, I had great success in getting rid of them on an SMF forum I administer by using an addon called Anti Bot: Unrecognisable Form (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1812)

Maybe it can help here too :>

Can you add a thing so that you can see what you have sent to people in private messages?  I just sent one and I can't remember if I mentioned something in it and wanted to check, but there is no way to do so.

There is - it's just not on by default. When you send a PM, there should be a 'save copy in Outbox' option. click it to save a copy of that message only. You can also set it to always do that in your profile, under 'Personal Messag options'.

As Pilchard says there is an option to do that. Unfortunately I can't see a way in the admin panels to get that on by default. You'll just have to remember to click it each time you send a PM :(

You can set it on-by-default for your own profile.
