i already turned of DEP, used all compatibility modes but it still wont start it says error crap
-
Can you post any more information about the error?
Also what version of Vista are you using? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
-
mine is 32 bit and the error said
"Application has generated an exception that could not be handled Process ID=0xadc (2780), Thread ID=0x124 (292) Click ok to terminate the application Click Cancel to debug the application"
and when i do click cancel nothing happens...
-
OK - try moving the directory out of Program Files and into some other area like your user directory or the desktop, or a memory stick, and running it from there. Does that work?
-
no sorry...still didnt work....
-
Could you post a bit more information about your system? e.g. what processor are you running on, is it a laptop/desktop, how much RAM you have, etc etc. Any info you can get :)
-
windows vista home premium SP 1 is the OS
ati radeon xpress 200m is the display driver
a dual core Genuine Intel(R) CPU T260 @ 1.60GHz 1.60GHz is the processor
and i currently have 1gb of ram
-
So it's a notebook?
I'm not sure what the exception might be to be honest - your notebook doesn't sound tremendously powerful, but Dyson should at least run albeit quite slowly. I'll do a bit of research.
-
actually dyson used to run fine 2 weeks ago.....
-
On the same machine? And crashes now - is this after installing the new version?
-
not really i think when i started to update drivers again...i dont actually recall....
EDIT:it was when i updated drivers...when i rolledback the update it was running again but now its uber slow....so i updated again and now its not running again....T_T
-
OK, so let me get this straight - the game was running OK 2 weeks ago, then you updated the video drivers and it stopped working. Then you rolled the drivers back and it was running but very slow, and now you applied the update again and it does not work again?
-
yea...the display driver is the one i updated...does this mean i dont get to play dyson?
-
And when you ran it two weeks ago it ran fine? No slowdown?
And the only thing you changed between then and now is the video driver?
-
It could be the way it handles OpenGL. The [updated] graphics driver, that is.
I'm running Vista SP1 Business (same as Home Premium in all the respects that count), Intel Dualcore E5200 2.5ghz, a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3450, with 3gb ram, and it all loads just fine.
If ATI uses the same opengl drivers for all their cards (which I assume they do), then the problem could lie in not having enough ram. Unfortunately, there's no way to fix this short of upgrading.
You could also check other aspects of your pc's performance. Stuff like registry, background apps, network activity, etc. Maybe you just have a virus :P

it ran slow but tolerable slow unlike when i rolledback the update on the display driver...and the display driver is the only thing that makes the game not work but i updated vista and other crap too

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll have a dig.

I'm having the same problem with Data Execution Prevention shutting down Dyson,
I'm running 32 bit vista with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TK-57 1.90 GHz
2.00 GB RAM

you probably just need to turn off data execution prevention
go to system then advanced settings then under performance click settings and i think data execution prevention tab should be there and click turn on data execution prevention only for essential windows programs and services only
if you already turned it off and still nothing...i dont know how to solve it as i am waiting for an answer too...

I've already tried to disable the DEP, but I get a message telling me that DEP can not be turned off for Dyson.
By the way the game looks great, I really hope I can get a chance to play it.
-
Have you tried moving the install to a less secure area of the HDD or to a memory stick?
-
I moved to to my documents and it still wouldn't let me open it.
however I found a temporary fix
if you type:
bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff
into the command prompt as an administrator it disables DEP allowing me to play the game after restarting the computer
not sure how much trouble this might bring me but at least the game works so far :)
-
I'll try to fix the permisions in the next version.

I know nothing about command prompt so could u teach me how to do that?
i know how to open cmd.exe and crap but im having trouble putting that input into the program...
little help? please?

I'm having the same issue on my Dell Latitude D620 running Vista Ultimate with all patches, service packs etc. Got 2 gigs of RAM and lots of free disk space. I've closed all other apps and non-essential background processes and it still won't seem to run fully. By "fully" I mean that it appears to load, I hear some lovely ambient music, but no screen display - just a blank window where the app should be running.
Bah. The screen shots look so gorgeous, I was really looking forward to trying this.

Go into the start menu and search command prompt, then type in
bcdedit.exe/set {current} nx AlwaysOff
exactly like it is here with the spaces and strange brackets and press enter (if you miss a space it will not work)- it should say something to confirm that it worked, then just restart your computer and try to open Dyson
here is a site that shows you how to do it

I've tried the bcdedit trick. No difference, alas. Still hearing the music, but the window is blank.
-
What version of Vista are all of you guys running? I have Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) with service pack 1, and I am running flawlessly... I installed the program to my flash drive because it wouldn't run from C:\Program Files, but other than that...
I don't get why it works for me Wogan and I, but no-one else on Vista...

Hi Michael,
Can you go into the system info app (in xp it's start->programs->accessories->system tools->system info) and let me know (by PM if you like) what the output is for the components->display section?
Cheers
Alex

Thanks Alex. This machine is running an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M currently set at 1440 x 900 x 60Hz.
Does that help?
