Title: NEW MAP - Binary Black
Post by: AWS on April 27, 2010, 09:07:31 AM
Hi all...

Well, after what seems like a long time, i see fit to release my map into the wild! It's called Binary Black mainly because the original, Binary, had lots of undulating colours, which i personally enjoyed, but was impratical for a general release. It is now toned down somewhat, to a more generally enjoyed dark mode arrangement.
If you feel like you want a gratuitous colour scheme, let me know, and ill post the original version!

Thank you to the mulititude of testers and more importantly their comments. I think, for a first level, it's pretty decent.

I hope you all like it.

And if anyone wants to give feedback, rant, bemoan, congratulate or otherwise comment, please do so, in this thread, so all can see what a good/ rubbish job i've done! 8)

A special thanks to Annikk.exe for his seemingly endless and unfathomable knowledge as well as the ease of explanation. it literally wouldnt have happend without you.... aww...  ::)

Enjoy...

Nice level, thanks. I received a lot of pleasure playing it. Difficult enough, not so easy, but not very difficult.
And I want to see a version with gratuitous colour scheme.

P.S. Waiting new levels from you.

for those who feel like their challenge wasn't quite enough, you can try it again but with this gratuitous, undulating colour scheme. which of course, has no effect on the difficulty of the level  8)

Played it 3 times and lost every time so far... bah.. :P  I am too tired or something I guess.  Will give it another try tomorrow.  :>

Seems like a great first map man.  Lots of variation in the asteroids and their attributes, interesting level design and the modulating colours works quite well I think.  :>  Although, at times, when it changed to the blue-black colour sort of reminded me of old CRT displays..  Still, a very cool and subtle effect.  :>

Very nice map. Enjoyed it allot. For the first attempt the map over whelmed me, so lost it for first two attempt but won by 3rd  ;D

Interesting thing which I felt was that, the AI had an tactic of attacking the player when you think it wont. And also since the send distance of the asteroids is not proportion to its diameter, it made me to form few alternate strategy and choose the best one. The map was just not an "send-conquer-any-asteroid" thing, as which asteroid you conquer determines whether you will win or loose. ;)

And, I like Binary Black instead of Binary map. The Binary map which keeps on changing the BKG, makes it hard to see the seeds, But the transmission from Black to Dark blue suited well. Looking forward to your next  ;)

well, thanks guys. im so pleased it's providing a decent challenge. i must say that i find it very hard to complete too. it seems it really matters if you do or dont get the luck with a flower at an appropiately early time.
i also liked the differing send distances of the roids, not always merely reflecting its radius.

tbh, i havent even thought of a new design yet. ive only managed to complete my map once because it takes me so long to do, i cant devote that much mroe time to it all!! :'(
ive had some vague ideas, but nothign conrete yet.... ill keep you posted....

thanks again good people.

Definitely a new challenge.  I managed to beat it the first time, but it was touch and go for a few moments.  The last, most powerful planets was REALLY difficult to capture, even with possession of the entire map.  I ended up having to send 1k seeds in order to get it!  Thanks for the time!

Thanks for the map, extremely good for a first try, also very difficult which is always nice. Just one bit of constructive criticism, the two planets the player starts next to already have enemies on them and the enemy tends to build at least one tree on both of them. Which limits strategic choices as a player. I mean, eufloria is a pretty simple game as it is... heh

I guess i'm trying to say you should give the player a few blank planets to do with as they wish.

Aaahhhh... that was a good one!! Not too hard and just the right amount of a challenge, for me anyway, thanks!

Nice job!  I like how the planets are laid out so you need to think strategically, especially where to place your defense trees and using mines.

Quite some time since the last post here...

anyways still want to place a big THANK YOU as this map has kept me trying for quite some time (probably longer than any other one...)

what I really like about this map is that is keeps challenging you until the end... get lax sometimes and you will regret it...

cheers! wowo

Oh, did I never comment and thank here for this great map? It was quite some time ago, but I remember that I was quite challenged by it, but it was great fun winning it. IIRC I needed two or three attempts. About time I play it again :)

A heartfelt “Thank you!” also from me.

Greetings, Tom
