user level downloads
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:05:10 AM »
I think it would be cool, if there would be an ingame manager to download and vote user created levels. :)

That would indeed be nice, but I fear it would need a horrenduous amount of work and administration etc.

what we need is an updated and cleaner version of one of the threads on here already that details everyones user-made levels. except it needs to be written concisely and very easy to readl, stickied, and regularly updated.

i think it should be very simple, ie - USER LEVELS/ MAPS/ ?? > Map Name (A-Z) > optional description from designer and/or players, about each map, as time goes on.

perhaps ill look into that myself over the coming weeks and months and layout a simple thrad design for it...

@AWS: If you have any ideas to improve this thread I’d be happy to implement them. I admit that it may not be “clean” since I write more from heart and less from brain ;)

@Bonobo.
yes, in the next few weeks or so (after im a little more settled in my new place) ill start working on a simple, clean, and easy to read version of what you have done all the hard work on! :)
ill collaborate with you if you like so we can get a nice little thread going that people can understand. when ive made a first draught, ill show you and we can see what we like and dont like etc...

its boring stuff, but also kinda fun and definitely worth it for the user-made levels part of the game. easy access = more playing...

Well, Rudolf, thank you, and it’s all because you folks rock, too. Seems we’re all in it for the love of it. I just wish I currently had more time to play & test.

Indeed! Sometimes it is spelled as RAWK as well. Have you seen school of rock btw? It is used in the same way in that movie. Think Dio and black sabbath and similar bands.

As much as I like the idea, I see one problem (aside from all the programming & hosting hassle):

Eufloria is, in effect, two people: Alex and Rudolf (forgive me if I leave out the music designer here), they’d have to check every user level for “cleanness” and, where necessary, make changes. Also, there’s some chance that they also will be expected to take responsibility for every crash that occurs with a user level, don’t you think so, too?

So, I for one would prefer if they concentrated on real game improvements, even if it’s only to accept the return key for “OK” <wink wink, nudge nudge>

<edit>

Or think about the world “quality” … Alex & Rudolf would have to create some quality management for these user-submitted levels … some people would be sad because their levels wouldn’t be included, or other people would be disappointed because of too hard/too easy levels, etc., etc.

As it is now it’s all in the responsibility of the user.

This sounds great! Map makers could get a topic or a site where they could upload their maps, then in the custom map area it will connect to the server and tell every info about the map, how the players rated it, information about gameplay and comments from other users(this would be optional) and you can ofcourse select to downlaod and play. This might sound easier in theory than practice though.

Or maybe AWS can update his User Level topic adding a poll for every map, so we vote for the best map and then it would show recommendations? Just an idea, as usual...

im not against the idea of adding polls for each map on the Custom Levels thread, but im not sure how to do it...
if someone more tech. savvy than myself can tell me how easy it is, ill be glad to....

I've made 3 polls already, you get this "Poll" thing to choose when you are on your own topic, AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN/TOPIC PAGE! The icon looks something like a few coloured bars ranging up and down, click it and add the options for choosing, I guess you can allow people to vote several times when they do too :)

Hmm, I'll investigate a little :P

Results:

Nope, but you can have an opinion for each map, and there is no limit of choices either :P

Why did you want a seperate poll for each and every map though?
