Unreachable Asteroids
« on: April 25, 2010, 02:29:51 AM »
Hi all, first off thanks for making such a great game, I've thoroughly enjoyed playing Eufloria. I've looked around the forum, however, and don't see any posts for the problem I'm having... on occasion, an asteroid which is clearly in range refuses to allow movement to it. The movement arrow will show green right up to the asteroid, but when I mouse over it the arrow disappears rather than snapping to the surface, and I cannot move there. It even shows the linked movement arrow green if I move past the asteroid! This seems random, as it changes if I restart the level, and within the same attempt the same asteroid is often reachable from different starting points. This occasionally makes the level unplayable and is often frustrating. Should I get some screen shots? My thanks for any help!

This problem and the randomness of the problem is a side effect of the game being procedurally generated.  It is a problem, however, which needs to continually be addressed.  You've done well by finding it and posting it here in the correct forum.  You might add information to a thread such as this one; [FIXED] [BUG v2.03] Cannot move the seedlings to neighbor asteroids.  Or you can start a new thread as you have done.  Screen shots are helpful.  And like the above example, please include the version [v1.10] and the severity [major][minor][tweak].  Thanks for posting.  Your diligence makes the game better for everyone.

Hi, thanks for your reply! On further checking around the forums I realized, however, that I was running version 2.03, which evidently had some pathing difficulties corrected in 2.04. I downloaded the patcher and updated my version, afterwards the problem seemed to be corrected.

I had checked my version when I was having the problem, however... 2.03 was the version I downloaded from d2d just a few days ago (which they supposedly keep up to date), and I have the "Automatically Update" box checked in Eufloria. So I guess my new comment is that the d2d download and the update checker need to be more on the ball :)

I will let d2d know that they have an old version...

Hi,

I have tried updated, using the patch, from version 2.03 to 2.04 but still show the old version on the start screen (the Eufloria folder shows the .exe file as being file version 2.0.0.0.)! And I also have the same problem with unreachable asteroids I am on level 10 and have two asteroids that are unreachable by me, but are colonized by "invaders" which makes the level unplayable (or unwinable)

I have tried updated, using the patch, from version 2.03 to 2.04 but still show the old version on the start screen [..]

From this I’d think that something with your update went wrong; I’d probably do a complete new install from scratch and then apply the update according to the instructions.
