XINPUT1_3.DLL missing
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:38:21 PM »

I just purchased the Humble Bundle and when I try to install Euflorium HD on my Windows 7 desktop, I get the following error message when I try to launch EufloriaHD.exe:

The program can't start because XINPUT1_3.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

I have tried re-installing several times.  My research indicates that XINPUT1_3.dll is part of DirectX, but I have DirectX 11 installed and functioning fine.

Any idea what could be causing this or how to fix it?

That's very odd. You're right - it is DirectX and we've tested on a vanilla Windows 7 machine pre-DirectX.

Apparently this issue has been seen before on other games.

Please follow the advice in this link and let us know if it resolves the problem.

In case that post disappears, the solution appears to be to install DirectX from here, and the problem appears to be some kind of faulty DirectX installation.

I had this same issue.

Since OP hasn't reported back (negative karma for you!), I just want to record for the sake of future googlers that the above fix does indeed work.

Same problem here. Notably the linked installer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

Is for a 2011 version of DirectX, while the version packaged with Eufloria is the 2010 version. Installing the 2011 version fixed this issue for me on Windows 7 64-bit.

It's possible the issue stems from this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113

That is, for Windows 7 and 8, a newer version of DirectX is appropriate. For various versions of Vista, various older versions of DirectX are appropriate, and for XP an even older version is the correct version. So the installer may be using a one-size-fits-all approach to the directx install, when really different versions need to be downloaded and installed depending on the OS.

Probably the most frustrating thing is that the Knowledge Base article I mentioned offers a link to download the latest version of DirectX, which does nothing but start Windows Update which lists no updates available - Microfail.
