BUG: "Access Denied" when attempting to save in Windows 7
« on: February 16, 2010, 12:24:59 PM »
Hey all. Been a big fan of the game since the demo came out and recently purchased the full game as part of the big indie bundle over at Cipher Prime. I've been really enjoying playing through the campaign, both the new levels and the familiar ones from the demo. There's a lot of minor and major game-play tweaks since the demo I'm seeing that I've really come to appreciate!

The other night, I beat the 8th stage and was greeted with this message:

"Couldn't save the file Resources/user.settings.
The error reported was:
Access to path 'G:\program files\Eufloria\Resources\user.settings' is denied."

I have since beaten the stage an additional two times, and received the same error both times. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, if that makes a difference.

Any help that can be provided would be great! I've been really enjoying the game and would very much like to play more.

So uh. Yeah. 24 hours and no response. Are there other places to go for tech support for this game?

Sorry, I don't check the forums every day, and I've recently moved house and have had little time.

This error was likely generated because the game is installed to a protected area of the operating system where file operations by applications are restricted. However, I changed Eufloria's file IO permissions such that it should be able to write to this location, so it's possible the file got locked by some other process or by another instance of Eufloria or something.

Try each or all of the following:

1. Check the file access permissions for that file (find it in Explorer and right click the file, go to properties, uncheck read only if it's checked)
2. Unlock the file by running a file unlocker on it
3. Run the game as administrator (right click the game exe to get the drop down menu, and select run as administrator)
4. Move the game folder to somewhere less secure e.g. your desktop or your documents folder

Let me know by PM if this doesn't help.

Running as administrator appears to have fixed it! I made the jump from XP directly to 7, so there's a couple things I'm not quite used to and this is one of them.

Thanks for getting back to me, and I can appreciate the craziness of changing households.

You shouldn't have to really - either I should be putting that file in a less secure area under this OS, or the permissions thing I thought I fixed should sort it out. So, sorry about the mess, but glad you have a way of playing without it crashing (at least due to that one) now :)
