Save ability needs to be brought to the front of the pack.
« on: June 09, 2009, 03:34:04 AM »
Ive been gaming longer than most people on this board have been alive.

I played text golf on an old vax/vms system.

I played "adventure" on MS-Dos 1.0... (Wiki it).

Basically, I'm old and I know stuff.

I also work at a job where I have a great time and free moments are few and far between.  but when I get 'em, I like to play.

Not being able to save pretty much stops me from being able to play this game too often.  I never had a set amount of time available.  I need to be able to save and come back.  I hate having performed all that work just to click it and make it go bye bye.

Please please please bump saving up to the top of the "next" list.

Thanks :)

I hear you :) It's up there but we have to concentrate on getting into a state where I can concentrate on these tasks first. It's next on the list after actually finishing the game engine so that it supports the features we want to support and Rudolf can properly and fully get on with his part of the process. A huge part of that at the moment is to enable better level design capabilities, so that's taking some time. After that load and save is top of the list :) However, it might be some time before we can get a new build out as the game is totally unstable now.

I dunno.  Those hives that keep attacking me seem pretty stable!

I understand wanting the stability in place.  But when I get to a larger map (And some huge ones developed by users), I don't have the time to devote to just SIT AND PLAY.  The two things need to kinda happen at the same time, In my opine.

Still.  Love the game.  Cheers :)

Absolutely yeah. But it's like, if I spend that time on load/save now, Rudolf will be sat twiddling his thumbs, or worse will do work that needs to later be redone. So it's better to enable him and then crack on with the stuff so we can both be going at red hot maximum pace :)

It's not the demo that is unstable, it is our build that we are working on which features all kinds of new goodies :-)
We have to get the new functionality to a level where we are happy with the game or we risk releasing something that is not that enjoyable. Save WILL happen, please hang in there!

We will for sure :-)

I will probably start a thread on this soon. People on the forum have been fantastic for us and we would be mad not to get some betatesting fun to those who enjoy it!

@FrumpyJones
nice.

I asked my (old) uncle to play this game, but he did not ask me for a save function after he tried it. He had more problems to understand why he should split the seed and how. The control with the right mouse button click was not comprehensible for him. He lost many games before he understand to send only a part of the whole seed in some situations. Later he understand how "exponential" growth does work for him and how to apply it.  When he saw no perspective to win and stuck on a level, he started the level again and tried something different.

For me I gain a benefit if I repeat something new instead of repeating old methods.
