Foliage!
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:59:33 PM »
So when you grow your trees on an asteroid - your little seedling guys poke into the ground and create patches of grass. I was a little bit disappointed to see that the Asteroids did not become more and more overgrown as time went on.

I'd like to just throw it out there to see what the other players think about this? Thoughts on passive plant-growth till the entire Asteroid is a mini jungle?

What I want to do eventually is make a game that is all about growing plants, probably procedural ones, with little to no conflict involved. Sort of like Sim City for gardens. In space.

I'd have loved to have put more flora in Eufloria :)

I would love to see that as an extra mode in Eufloria, to just see like, everything grow and grow and, stuff :P

yeah more flora on the asteroids would be awesome!  You might even be able to throw some use into them, for instance, you could throw in a lot more seedlings (like 50 or so) and get some bushes or  flowers (ones that dont float and make beeping sounds) or something that increase asteroid stats by a bit.  I don't think that would overbalance the game too much.  And also with all of this new free time you have, you might even be able to throw in some ... multiplayer!!!  :o haha

Seedlings with different attributes could produce different sort of plants...

High strength could produce tall, strong trees...
High speed, small weeds and grass which grows quickly... (these produce seedlings from stalks..?)
High power would be perfect for small resilient shrubs that cling to the planets with a tenacity not seen from the others...

Then of course, you could work out a formula that decided what each aspect regulated...

And as the seedlings were produced, there stats would be slightly influenced by the planet they're on, but NOT as drastically as with the main game...
slight changes in attributes... and what you plant could alter the stats of the planet also...

As plants GROW on the planet, the Core Energy should drop, seeing how it's be used up to produce the plants... which in turn would effect the growth rate of plants. As plants or seedlings DIE on the planet, the remaining energy from entities could be absorbed by the planet... and the planet it'self could grow...

In which case, pruning would be useful... and since the plants ARE sentient, you COULD still have the combat aspect, but to a scaled down degree... optional perhaps... maybe the A.I is permanently set to 'DO NOT ATTACK TILL YOU ARE FIRST ATTACKED!'
