2.0.5 Oddities
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:13:28 AM »
I encountered some oddities w/ 2.0.5 (after the patch that worked ;)) and two custom levels in the new Map Pack, so I don’t know whether it’s got to do with 2.0.5 or just the combination of 2.0.5 and those two custom levels.

- Binary Black by AWS
- Nemesis by Cinemabaroque

1. My seedlings sometimes acted autonomously, w/o my order, as in demo mode: exploring new asteroids, moving in whole armies to own or enemy asteroids.

2. Flowers went to asteroids and planted themselves w/o order.

3. After winning both these levels I got a panel telling me that Skirmish Arenas had been unlocked. I thought this was to happen only after winning certain campaign levels.

Just played campaign level 3, DMM level 3 and Skirmish Arena level 1, couldn’t observe autonomous seedling actions here.

Cheers, Tom

<Ingrid>

Happened again w/ custom levels: My seedlings explored and sometimes attacked on their own, w/o orders from my side. I swear I’m not stoned. Well, at least not stoned or drunk or whatever enough that I’d imagine such things to happen.

Looks to me as if somehow demo mode is added to my playing, like when you have the main menu for a long time, the demo begins with AI playing, but I can also play together with it.

- Infinity by annik.exe
- The Night Creepers by Mihhaelo

Also, when finishing both levels I was brought back to the campaign menu, not to the Custom Levels menu. No unlocking of Skirmish arenas this time.

Oh, perhaps I was being punished for accelerating game speed again? Some hidden switch that sensed that I was acting out my ADD again and tried to help me in my impatience by switching some AI to help me? ;)

<edit>

For some [OT] content: Watching and listening and enjoying arte TV while I’m writing this: “Neil Young - Heart of Gold” (the documentary movie by John Demme).

</edit>

<edit 2>

Played it again w/ Level 5 in each Campaign and DMM, no AI “helping” me here. And after winning I always came back to the menu where I began, i.e. Campagin and DMM, respectively.

</edit 2>

<edit 3>

OK, I’m totally sure now. Created a folder “Custom Maps” in the maps folder, therein I put all 44 custom levels which I d’loaded this night and sorted in their own folders, played a few of these, always had AI “help” me, I could sit back and let the AI win the game alone for me.

Then played Skirmish arena level 5, no AI interference here.

</edit 3>

I've got that, but worse. The whole game will act independently. I can be in a totally separate window (like FF, to post this) and an the game will load a level from the menu, not after I click on a button, zoom in and out, plant stuff, and just generally mess around. If it helps, I used the patch installer, then copied the steam patch contents into my Eufloria folder. Was that the right thing to do?

Also, before the patch, my computer worked fine when Eufloria  was open. Now, the cooling fan is spinning nearly all the time, but stops after I quit Eufloria. Is there any way to rollback to v.2.04?

Yes, I thought this is the demo mode, it begins from the main menu after some idle time.

BTW Thanks for reminding me of those zoom-ins, I forgot to mention that they also happen when playing custom levels.

Yes, it begins from the main menu, the custom levels menu, and the custom levels menu when there is an error message open. It closes error messages, and when I quit the level, it goes to the main level select menu. I'm not sure which level it loads, but it's one of the last 5, if the levels it shows after I quit the level it loads are any clue. I also don't know what it does exactly when it auto-loads, because I'm usually doing other things.

I'm pretty sure the game starting automatically after a certain period of time was added as a feature lol. You'll notice the camera tends to follow a specific seedling.

Well can't we turn it of then? Or at least change the length of time? It's annoying when I'm fixing/making a map and I'm looking for the problem, and when I check what the problem was - whoops! It's gone. It's not a biggie, but is annoying having to quit and get back to where I was before. Anyway, what happens when that seedling dies?

Hehe, fine to see that my suspicion was correct.

Any idea when we can expect a patch for the patch? I’m soooo eager to play some custom levels again, now that I’ve played through the campaign, DMM and Skirmish Arenas twice …

Or is there a way to do it using the console?

Thanks muchly, Alex, but this doesn’t work: Custom levels take literally forever to load, I’ve waited up to one hour. (Oh, no, I didn’t really wait, I was on my terrace, tended the bees and put three plants in new flowerpots ;) ) Anyway, I had to kill Eufloria, Escape key didn’t help.

So … I’m sorry for having pushed ;) I’ll always rather wait a while for a version that works.

Greetings, Tom

<Ingrid> (New post so it won’t be missed)

Hooray, now it works. Also, when finishing a custom level I’m back in the custom levels menu.

Great, THANK YOU!
