Apple iPad audience ideal for this game
« on: September 10, 2010, 09:56:31 PM »
I played hours with the demo tonight and thought this would be fantastic to have on my iPad and sit down on the sofa or play it in bed at night when I can't sleep. Sitting in front of a desk with a bowed back, reaching out for the mouse, and with a noisy PC case next to me just isn't the real thing. I mean, it's almost impossible to relax.

As others have pointed out already, a touch screen (multi-touch/zoom/scroll) is the ideal platform for meditative and stylish games like Eufloria. I don't think the iPod/iPhone screens are big enough, though, but the iPad is for sure. It is also very likely that the next generation iPad will feature an even higher "Retina" screen resolution.

You will certainly see a huge success on the App Store. This stylish and beautiful game is a definite must have! Let alone it's a nice gadget to showcase how cool one's iPad is ;-)

Re: Apple iPad audience ideal for this game - great for multiplayer

As we are at it, a multiplayer feature (two players would be sufficient, IMO) would ideally go together with the iPad. Players could simply connect via Wi-Fi.

Each player would simply replace the AI of the respective other player. The set of commands is very small and the state of the game world is straightforward to describe, so both sims could just run in parallel (separately on each iPad) while only the commands of one player are transmitted to the other iPad (and vice versa). It would not be necessary to implement separate server code. Every player actually is a server.

… and in the Mac version it would certainly react positively to Apple’s new touchpad (which I would immediately buy then). And then covince Apple to bundle it with every touchpad :D but that’s a pipe dream.

<edit>

BTW, nice idea, andermoo, this two-player thing.

I play Eufloria on a 27" iMac 3.06 GHz w/ Parallels Desktop in a Vista Business virtual machine. Sometimes a bit slow-ish, but usually runs just fine.

I also play this on a bootcamped iMac 27" i7 core with 8gb of ram. It's stunning.
