Map: Save Our Solar System
« on: April 29, 2012, 10:32:39 PM »
Hey everyone!

I'm new to the forums but have been playing Eufloria ever since it was a little bright spark on the gaming horizon called Dyson.

I've finally made my own map!
It's called Save Our Solar System.

Basically a scaled (I used the term scale loosely. Planets and sun are scaled down, sun more than the planets. The asteroid belt has been scaled up and the number of asteroids is significantly lower than the actual asteroid belt. The distances between planets and the sun are scaled but also increased otherwise Mercury's seedlings would be flying through the Sun's seedlings and vice versa. Orbital speeds of the planets around the Sun are scaled down as well) down version of our own solar system.

Yes I have included Pluto because doesn't it just feel weird without it?

I have to give a massive shout out to annikk.exe for their excellent tutorials and Lost Seedling for the guidance given to me on how to move asteroids.

I hope you girls and guys enjoy my map. Any positive or constructive feedback would be much appreciated.

Current Known Bugs:

- Asteroids continue to move around their orbits when the pause menu is open
- Flowers once planted next to a tree, will stay suspended in space at that position, they will not move with the asteroid

A great new map! I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was not difficult my first play-through, but perhaps I got lucky. I'm not sure how many other factions started but I encountered 3 others as the game progressed. I would think a version with enhanced AI could be very challenging.

A small glitch I encountered was where I was unable to "select" two of the "planets". I was able to conquer them but could not move any of my seedlings off the planet or view the stats. I noticed that the AI also seemed incapable of moving any seedlings or laser mines off those particular planets. I wondered if it was just a problem with my computer. It didn't effect the game otherwise.

Thanks for giving us a new map, Brad vas Normandy. I hope you keep going! I'm not sure what I contributed as you say, but anything I learned about moving asteroids I got from Annikk, Dragoonreas, Hitman, or Radman.

I'll look forward to playing it again. Oh- you might want to change the subject header to indicate that this is a map. Since the "Central Roid of User Creations" is no longer being updated, it may help people see that this thread is for a new map.

I'll definitely be playing this when I get back, I've been waiting for a new map for...ages. I have no idea when the last one was released.

I'm glad that you have enjoyed it so much. Just out of curiousity, how long did one match take for you? And also was the map size too big or the planets too small?

I'm working on the problem with selecting the planets, I'm currently having that problem with only Mars.

How do I change the change the subject header btw?

Brad, just you use the “modify” button (instead of the quickedit icon) for editing your opening post, then you can change the subject line.

On my second play-through, I only encountered the glitch with Mars again. I didn't find the map size too big. However, on a map that large, and just speaking from my personal opinion, I find trying to click and select the relatively small asteroids somewhat tedious. I had the same experience with Hitman271's Galaxium Beta map. It requires a lot of zooming in and out. But- that is just the nature of the map if it has small asteroids. I actually like the sense of huge scales and vast distances because of it.

On my second playthrough, I played more aggressively and managed to complete it in probably 30 minutes? I'm not sure but it didn't take long.

Going to test the map, exciting when new fellas make maps :D

(click to show/hide)

Constructive criticism: I like the map very much, the only thing you should take a look into is the fact that all the planets reach each other and increase the spawncap on the asteroids as the fewer adjacent asteroid you have the more you risk when sending out seedlings.

Nice job, great idea :)

I also had the problem selecting Mars and Uranus.  If you're thinking of tweaking anything I would suggest increasing the planet sizes, especially Pluto (ok it's technically not a planet anymore... sheesh, I hate that ;)) to make it easier to send seeds to them.  Overall it was a nice level but TBH I found it quite easy.

For now I’d forget about writing maps for Eufloria, I guess, until it is clear how the new versions work with them.

You can make maps for Eufloria HD. When we do fully update for modding, they shouldn't need major changes to work with the game, if any. It's more that we'll be adding features.

Also, in the current build of Eufloria HD you can only 'replace' existing levels, not load new ones. Suggest replacing Skirmish levels maybe?
