RTS with level editor? Why, it begs some
towertree defence!
Yeah, I know, not very original idea, but Eufloria is a game with some fairly unusual and unique mechanics. I believe they could be explored to create an interesting form of level centered around defending.
Right now the idea I have is to have a series of asteroids in front of a large 'target' asteroid that enemy seedlings would converge to. You cannot plant trees in this asteroid, nor can you access it from your own asteroids. Around the line of your asteroids exists some enemy-controlled ones that they can use to navigate around the field. You can't plant trees on these either, preventing the player from conquering them and halting enemy advancement (could be used as a mechanic?). Enemies control the one asteroid that can access the final one.
The idea is that the enemy is situated on another asteroid ring far (or just enough to be out of reach) from yours with a giant one that can send a wave of seedlings to your position while you can't access it yourself. Many small asteroids around it house each of the waves, each with their own stats. These would include waves with or completely composed of enchanced seedlings, and laser mines, if it's not too painfully slow to move them to your asteroids. These could be the 'boss' waves.
Objective is to deploy seedlings and trees on your asteroids as you see fit and attack the enemy waves as they come. If a certainnumber of enemies manage to reach the goal asteroid, you lose. If you ward off all waves before that happens, you win.
I plan on doing this level myself, but that shouldn't stop anyone from trying, or from showing me a better way to do it.
