Custom Resolutions?
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:10:08 AM »
I play on a 50" plasma TV, and as with all HDTVs they come with overscan, so that part of the image is cut off. I have my desktop resolution set to 1842x1030 instead of 1920x1080, and most games follow that resolution or at least let me choose a way to use a custom resolution.

Now if I play Eufloria the bottom of the screen is cut off, so when I am trying to check how many enemies an asteroid has, the enemies part of it is cut off, as well as the speed rating.

Anyway to set the resolution to a custom res?

a) not all HDTVs come with overscan, ive never even heard of it. maybe plasmas do, but hey, no comment on those :)
b) for me, eufloria runs in window mode by default. if it doesnt for you, check out the game options, you should be able to switch it on there. cause window mode = no resolution problems

I think this may be a problem with SDL - it doesn't allow fullscreen options of strange sizes. Believe me I also find it less than ideal. Currently the solution is to simply run the game maximized instead of in fullscreen.

I also have problems with the fullscreen resolution. I have a ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card and and old 4:3 CRT monitor. I frequently get out of range errors. The only way to fix that is to set a certain maximum resolution in the ATI control panel. That fixes the out of range error, but a certain part of the screen at the bottom is cut off so that the control panel can't be accessed and I can't build trees etc. The game seems to set a too high 16:9 resolution, the maximum resolution possible. Would be very helpful if it would be possible to set the resolution myself in the options. Maybe you should try to implement that in a later version of the game. At the present time I can only play the game in windowed mode. I think that error destroys the ambient atmosphere of the game.

As I say, I may very well be limited by SDL in terms of full screen resolutions. I'm sorry. It is not an issue I can fix.
