Perhaps a bug, and an oddity
« on: March 26, 2010, 08:37:49 PM »
Hello.

First of all I must tell you that I run Eufloria in Vista Business within a Parallels Desktop Virtual Machine on an 27" iMac Core2Duo with 4 GB RAM and 3.06 GHz, so the recommendation to update graphics drivers is lost on me. BTW screen size is 2.560px*1.440px, I know this is LARGE and probably is hard work for graphics.

1. What may be a graphics bug is to be seen in the first attached image: When the game is well advanced and there are several hundreds of seedlings moving between the asteroids, sometimes I get these white intersecting circles, as if the system is unable to update the screen. When then I zoom in a bit I usually get the normal screen again, but then sending seedlings to a far away asteroid is impossible because it's out of the window. Is this a special problem of users with Virtual Machines? (Screenshot heavily downsampled)

2. Second Image: During one game suddenly I had the Lua console appear, visor-like, at the top of the window and I don't know what I did to make it appear. OK, now that I read Annik's comment about Developer mode, I'll try Ctrl-D to check whether this was the trigger. (Screenshot deliberately w/ very low JPG quality just enough that you get the info)

If you ever begin to work on a Mac version of Eufloria I'd be very glad to join your beta team. Oh, what the heck, I'd also want to join the beta team with your Windows betas, since I happily waste so much time with Eufloria in the Virtual Machine ;D

Greetings, Tom in Germany

Console key is ` (next to 1, above tab). Press it to remove the console.

The bug you're experiencing above is probably the graphics arrays I use running out of room when a lot of stuff is on the screen. I think I know how I can fix that.

Thanks, Alex.

On the German Mac keyboard it's the ^ key, next to 1, above Tab.

Maybe that other key is somewhere easily pressed on your keyboard then...

Is there any progress regarding the graphics glitch mentioned in the first post (first attached image) and also mentioned by a few others in the forum?

The glitch still exists, I can reliably reproducable it, e.g., in Crypton’s map “Project Asteroids” when the game has progressed and there are MANY seedlings moving all around the map.

Yeah, still need to think about this one - I'll have a look at that map. Cheers.

This was the thread I mentioned re: Graphics Bug, see first screenshot.

<edit>

BTW I don’t think it has to with my use of Eufloria in a virtual machine since I’ve seen others posting similiar screenshots somewhere else in this forum.
