Game Freeze and Crash
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:00:25 AM »
Good evening!

I've only started playing recently, but as I found, I got to level 11 earlier today, and ended up exiting the level to restart later.  When I went back to play it, it started doing one of these two things:

It either freezes and then crashes a few minutes later (This is what it does most frequently);
or it crashes right out.

As far as tech info (dunno what's helpful):
Running Win XP
Video drivers up to date
Game patched to latest version

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and I'm pretty much at a loss.

Did you buy it on steam? Try using the System Info option in one of the top menus of Steam. That spits out loads of info.

Ah, I was mistaken -- the graphics drivers are not up-to-date as I had thought (or at least, doesn't seem that way;  I could have sworn I'd updated...), anyway...

:edit: NOW they're up-to-date and I'm still encountering the issue...

It doesn't really seem like a graphics issue, considering that these levels worked previously.

I actually want to try erasing my save data in order to see if a clean start will change anything, since after uninstalls and reinstalls, nothing really seems to change. Found it, tweaked it.  Nothing changed.
(I also tried unlocking the entire chapter, and have checked several other levels -- the only ones that seem to be affected are levels 10, 11, and 12 so far.)

OK, thanks for the report - we'll check out levels 10, 11 and 12.

After updating to .net 3.5 (as I saw in another thread), the problem is gone. :D

Yay!

Weird, that - the game should only require .NET 2.0.

Hi Alex -- this is a bit OT wrt this thread, but, I've just started a series of tests in this regard
as a number of {linux users} running eufloria {in crossover/wine} have observed the same
thing -- they have to install .NET 3.0 to get things going, but afaict, this has happened at
some stage with update patches (possibly 2.06) -- this is of course changed behavior (if
I can reproduce it) -- as you indicate, previously .NET 2.0 has been sufficient (but then,
we don't have supports for .NET 2.0 SP1/SP2, so I can't really dig the assemblies there)...

Will post back...

Cheers!

Query: is current Eufloria version reliant on .NET 2.0 SP2?

It might be - I build it targeting .NET 2.0, but who knows what MSVC does with it within that constraint. I don't know whether I'm using any SP1/2-specific code, sorry :/

Thanks Alex, I do understand what you're saying there wrt MSVC (does anyone know the truth ? =) 'Might be' is a fair answer here all things considered -- I wasn't able to recreate the issue straight up, so I'll keep playing through the levels again and see if I can trip it.....on the plus side, it's such a good game I don't mind at all replaying it over and over looking for clues 8`)
