« on: March 28, 2010, 01:10:13 PM »
Beta Testing Signup is now closed!!

Requirements:

  • You must be an experienced Eufloria player.
  • You must be willing to send me your email address by private message so that I can send you a copy of the test level.
  • You must be willing to play the test level at least twice.
  • You must then email your feedback within 3 days of receiving the level.

What your feedback should consist of:

1. How many times did you play the level?
2. How many times did you beat the AI?
3. How many times did the AI beat you?
4. Did you experience any major bugs, or did the AI stop reacting, or did the game crash before you finished the level?
5. Did you notice the AI doing anything incredibly stupid?
6. Did the AI do anything that you thought was particularly smart?
7. Did you notice anything else interesting about the AI?
8. How could the AI be improved?

Why you should bother:

You get to play against a brand new AI - who knows maybe it will be fun :>

Closing date: March 31st.

Can't guarantee I'd be able to play the level within 3 days if you send it at the start of easter. If that's OK I'd be willing to test it.

I have about 5-6 beta testers onboard now, which is awesome.
I'm going to distribute updated copies of the map when signup closes at midnight tonight.  This update will contain the latest scripting changes - every time somebody beats the AI now, I find out what tactic they used and script in detection for that situation arising, and a counter strategy to it.  There will likely be major new modifications today also.

The AI only needs to start with 220 seedlings to be unbeatable now.  Previously (in the copy of the map all the beta testers have) the AI started with 296 seedlings.  The difference is there are some new scripts now, making the AI win more efficiently.  :>

I will probably add a few more bits and pieces before the final beta goes out tonight.  Map will be posted at the weekend.  :>

Beta Testing signup is now closed.

A copy of the updated and final beta of the level has been sent to all beta testers.

The level is now 30kb in size - 3 times larger than anything in the original game - making it (as far as I know) the largest map in file size ever made for Eufloria.  :>

The level will be released to the general public at the weekend.

The beta map and the update are both pretty broken, I have discovered.

Today I overhauled the code for the metric system, which is the main engine room of the AI.
Now the AI is extremely deadly.  The major bugs from before seem to be gone.  There are still minor issues like not prioritising good asteroids, but I have mitigated many of those in simple, indirect ways.  Soon I should be able to further reduce the AI's starting seeds (currently 220), and it will still be impossible.. :>

I am consumed with making this level now.  I see code when I sleep.  I can't stop thinking about it.  :P
It will all be over tomorrow when the map goes live.
