First of all, this game is the most original I have seen in quite a while. I absolutely love it.
However, is there any chance that multiplayer will eventually be added? Making huge seed armies and swarming my friends or working in tandem to defeat AI would be great.
-
Thanks! We are really pleased that people like the game.
With the multiplayer, I've not written the game's code (seedling movement etc) to be network friendly. I've also never done any network code. All this means that adding multiplayer would not be a trivial thing. It is currently not on the list of planned features as a result, but I suppose one never knows.
-
Can you at least avoid adding more things that would make adding networked play harder?
-
I personally dont think that the concept is multiplayer friendly. Not that theres anything wrong with an SP game of course
I just dont think it would be very fun compared to SP.

There's this other game called Cortex Command that will never have networked multiplayer because of its physics. It does, however, make up for it with its endless replayability because of modding. Even then, it just barely gets away with it. I just don't see as much potential for expansion in this game. Then again, I don't see much room for multiplayer either, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what direction it takes.

i would be very happy if somebody would add an multiplayer-mode on this game (not a very big feature; only the possibility of for example 4 players playin together, everyone vs. everyone)

Somebody made a multiplayer clone of Dyson.

Yep, he emailed me to offer his services in developing Dyson as a multiplayer game. We said we had no plans right now so he went ahead and made one himself, so I said he should post it up to TIGSource.

Multiplayer games are always underated and under-used as an addition to extending playability (once games are mastered by overcoming the incorporated Artificial Intelligence these games lose their interest) but with the option of multiplayer the game can keep growing, pitting yourself against other people's stratergies.
8) This forum was to ask for suggestions and improvements for future updates or even the final game as with previous posts a lot of people would love you to include this as a future option.
Please listen to the fans of this excellent game and don't lose your focus for the finished game, stratergy games are meant to be played against other people and communities to get the best out of the game I HOPE you don't write this feature off.
-
They haven't even written it on, so they can't write it off. Dyson doesn't have enough room for strategy currently(they are working on changing this), but games like Defcon show macro scale strategy games do work.

wonderful game! Really "casual"
waiting for multiplayer :)

It's really sad that there is no multiplayer in this game, i'm 100% behind the cause. I really hope you guys eventually add it because, as many victories as a player can win, it's always against AI. Let people stroke their egos by beating real people! Of course, i imagine you'll need to make sure there are plenty of viable strategies people can use to win, a quick read on here suggests only a small number. Without there being a variety of tactics, a multiplayer player could just say "ahh he's probably about to attack *there*" and the game would be fairly predictable. I cross my fingers!
